I rang the hotel a couple of times before I came to check some details and book a meal for the first night and the staff were friendly and helpful. The meal we had on our first night was excellent-slow cooked lamb followed by lemon cake, cod with chorizo followed by cheeses (generous helpings and very tasty.) The meal we had on the third night (a Sunday) was not so good, especially the mushroom risotto with char-grilled chicken, which sounded very promising, but I make risotto myself and mine is way better!! Sorry to criticise. Also on our final morning we took a chance on "grilled" Kippers, which we normally love. These were small and definitely NOT grilled-I would say they were boil in the bag or "jugged" Kippers at best. It was a shame, as the cooked Welsh breakfasts which we had on the other days were delicious! We both really enjoyed seeing the local birds coming to the bird feeder-especially the Great Spotted Woodpecker and the Nuthatch-beautiful! The location of the hotel was really nice too, with the river and mossy trees behind. I made use of the swimming pool first thing on our last morning and really enjoyed it.

First of all,the location is perfect for Pen y Fan adventures. Second, the food in the restaurant is amazing - reasonably priced and great quality. Third, there's steam, sauna, jacuzzi and small poolyo unwind after along hikes. The rooms are comfortable to sleep in. The hotel rooms are a bit outdated but they're clean. It just needs deep cleaning in some corners. Overall experience is amazing. Note, if you have mobility issues, this hotel isn't very mobility friendly. Part of the building is very old - no lifts and very narrow corridors.

The location was exactly what we wanted, plenty to do, walking, beautiful scenery etc. The breakfast was very good, there was a great selection even on the cooked breakfast, vegetarian option and for my partner his favourite kippers. We even extended our stay by 2 days. The staff were incredible helpful and when we wanted to extend our stay unfortunately we needed to be moved to another room as they were pretty booked up they even showed us the room we would need to move to before we booked it. Used the gym, pool, spa everyday.

The Nant Ddu Lodge is fantastically situated for those wishing to walk on the Black Mountains and surrounding areas (most notably, Pen Y Fan). The leisure facilities are modern and for a small gym, the range of equipment was one of the best I’ve come across. The dinner service was swift and the food was of a high standard. Very accommodating of our new born baby in the dining areas and room. We’ll definitely be returning!

There was a good selection of food at the the Breakfast buffet and option for a full cooked breakfast which was to order. The Evening menu had plenty of chose and the bar area was also very friendly, I tried the Brecon Cocktails which where a good price. Our room was a large bedroom with the added bonus of a separate lounge area. Bathroom was very clean and spacious. I also used the spa area which was very nice.
